In Memory of the Manjakandi Martyrs…

VIVEK

28th-29th of October 2020 is the First Anniversary of Martyrdom of Comrades Kannan, Aravindan, Ajitha and Manivasagam. Exactly one year before they were caught alive, tortured and brutally killed by the bloodthirsty Thunderbolts ( a Special Force of Kerala Police) in Manjakandi. These illegal, inhumane, cold murders were executed under the directions of Left Democratic Front Government’s Chief Minister, ‘Comrade’ Pinarayi Vijayan.

Even after one year, When I try to recollect those horrible few weeks after the murder, My heart is filled with agony, grief and of course with rage. The so-called communist government of Pinarayi Vijayan acted like Hitler’s government. The Police and the administration insulted the dignity of even the dead. They left the bodies of the Martyrs unprotected in the forest for a few days allowing them to decay. They did not allow even the mother, brother and sister to see the bodies of their beloved. They allowed the relatives to see the bodies only after the Madras High Court ordered them and again they were threatening and intimidating the relatives not to take their bodies to their native places. Only after the Madras High Court intervened, Comrade Manivasagam’s body could be cremated at his native village. It was a heartbreaking period for all those who wanted to receive their bodies and give them a respectful funeral, which is is a basic right for every human being. The cruelty and the perversion of the rulers did not stop with Kerala. The Tamilnadu police and the Government for their part made sure that the funeral took place at the Midnight within 30 minutes. They ended their savagery by foisting UAPA cases on 5 of comrade Manivasagam’s blood relatives (including his wife Kala and Sister Chandra who came from prison by the order of the Madras High Court) and Vivek(me). Comrade Manivasagam’s sister, her husband and her son were put in prison for the crime of arranging the funeral of him under the directions of the High Court. We are not living under the feudal Chola Kingdom or the Imperialist British Raj. We are told again and again, that ours is the biggest democracy in the world and Kerala government calls itself Left Democratic Front Government. Democracy is dead… Long live democracy!

After the brutal killing of the revolutionaries, the Kerala CPI(M) leaders from Pinarayi Vijayan to Saseendran (Wayanad MLA) insulted them with slanders and lies. Pinarayi Vijayan who calls himself as a communist blamed them as outsiders and even mimicked their slang. What a great expression of Communist Internationalism! He tried to paint them as beggers for asking rice from the people. It is a true expression from the heart! What else can you expect from a 5 Star communist like Pinarayi? Mr Pinarayi, You can call them as beggers, but they are neither like the kodiyeri bandits brothers or like the walayar rapists of your gang. Saseendran called those Maoists as Roaming Street dogs. I don’t know what prefix will he use for Che Guevara who roamed many countries!

Comrades Manivasagam,Kannan,Aravindan and Ajitha.

Let us find out who these 4 people were! They all belonged to the families of poor peasants and urban working class.

Comrade Manivasagam who hailed from Salem District of Tamil Nadu was born in a poor peasant family. He completed a Master Degree and was originally a teacher at his neighbourhood. He was inspired by the Revolutionary peasant struggles in Dharmapuri district of Tamilnadu and joined the Revolutionary movement led by CPI (ML) People’s War in the second half of the ’80s. He worked in various mass fronts like youth, students and peasants. He led the masses in many struggles in different districts. He was the state president of Radical Students Union (RSU) and also was the editor of Revolutionary magazine MUNNODI. He was working in the rural areas from the early nineties and finally entered the tri-junction area in 2011. He was a Member of Tamilnadu State Committee and later Western Ghats Special Zonal Committee of Maoist party. He was a simple and hardworking communist. He mingled with the masses freely and was a darling of the masses everywhere he worked. He never capitulated or bend before the enemy during numerous occasions of torture. Numerous years in prison did not break his revolutionary zeal. Even the age, health and other odds did not prevent him from entering the hard terrain of the Western Ghats, where he laid down on his invaluable life for the sake of oppressed.

Comrade Kannan (Karthi) was from an urban working-class family of Chennai. He was a worker after finishing his High School Education. He was a member of DYFI in his locality. After coming in contact with the Maoist Revolutionary movement around the Year 2000, he rejected the parliamentary and class-collaborationist politics of CPI(M). After that, he never turned back and he was involved in the underground youth movement and became a party organiser in the urban areas very soon. He was arrested in a false case and was jailed for four years. He along with three other Comrades spent three years in Orissa prison. He led the Comrades in numerous struggles inside the prison for the rights of hundreds of tribals lodged in that prison. He learned to write and read Oriya in prison. After coming out of jail, he has joined the activities in the Tri-Junction within a short period. He was a very humble communist, cheerful, hardworking, soft-spoken and he was loved by all the Comrades who worked with him. A great Revolutionary leader in the making was brutally murdered by the Kerala fascist regime.

Comrade Aravindan was a friend of Comrade Karthi. He was also a resident of Chennai and member of DYFI. After joining the Revolutionary movement, he worked as a worker in the factory to organise the workers for a short period. Later he joined the armed squads in Karnataka. He was a promising organiser and became a commander there. He came to the Tri-Junction area and worked as a commander. He was a very serious and hardworking comrade.

Comrade Ajitha was the second woman martyr by the same name in Tri junction area. She was from a very poor family in Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu. She was a talented cultural activist and was also well trained in many folk dances. She completed a degree and joined a law course. She discontinued law education to join the tri-junction work. Though she did not have experience of this terrain and work, she developed herself into a good leader.

All these Comrades were from basic classes. Some of them were educationally highly qualified. Everybody among them was doing some job before joining the Revolutionary organization.

These martyrs were never scrambling for power and money for themselves. But instead, they fought for the political power and a better future of the oppressed masses. They had sacrificed a secured life, their families, friends, their youthhood for the sake of Liberation of the working class and other oppressed sections. They believed in the ideology of Marxism- Leninism-Maoism and tried to live and fight as true communists. They sacrificed even their lives for the sake of revolution. These selfless Maoists are the real Successors of great Martyrs of Telangana and Kayyur. They followed the footsteps of the great martyr of Kerala, Comrade Varghese and lived and died as real communists.

There are some people who are calling themselves as communists and some other parties which are calling themselves communist parties. They are living like a bourgeois and following the policies of the bourgeois. A perfect example is CPI(M) and its leaders. CPI(M) has given up the communist ideal of social revolution and has become one of the political representatives of the ruling classes. They are aligned with them in selling the country to the imperialists, aiding the loot of the big bourgeois, preserving the semi-feudal relations, behaving like the fascist by oppressing the masses. We can give hundreds of examples of this. We can look into a few examples from the pinarayi Vijayan government. The CPI(M) party is saying that it is against neoliberal exploitation. But the Pinarayi Vijayan government is preparing grounds for the Sagarmala project, which uproots thousands of fisherman from their homes. It is also taking away the lands of the poor farmers for so many infrastructure projects. The present and past CPI(M) governments of Kerala had eagerly aided the MNCs and the rich to destroy the forests of the Western Ghats causing the greatest damage to the Eco balance of Western Ghats.

The Pinarayi Vijayan Government says that it is fighting against the Hindutva Sangh Parivar, but in reality, it is going soft on RSS men who manufacture guns or publicly displays Rifles on social media. They also dropped POSCO case on a RSS man for sexual harassment. The Pinarayi government and police helped CPI(M) members to get acquitted in the gang rape case of Scheduled Caste child. Not only that, Pinarayi government has been exposed fully for its corruption. Chief Minister’s personal secretary and an employee from his office are involved in Gold smuggling as well as housing scams. The Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s sons are said to be thickly involved in these. scams. Pinarayi Vijayan hands are stained with the blood of Maoist Martyrs. Kerala Police has murdered 7 Maoists in the last four years. All these so-called Encounters were cold-blooded murders. They have even killed Benny, an innocent photographer mistaking him for a Maoist. While CPI(M) is conducting a campaign against the draconian UAPA, the Kerala government is using this indiscriminately. Even its party members like Allen and Thwaha were arrested under this act, charging them as Maoists. Apart from this, there were at least 45 custodial deaths under this LDF Government. Pinarayi Vijayan is ruling like Junior Modi. The faded Red flag of CPI(M) has been turned into full saffron by this Junior Modi(Pinarayi). I hope that the oppressed people of Kerala will distinguish between the real communists and the fascists with the red mask.
